Do you love a fruity summer cocktail? You’ll fancy this light and refreshing watermelon mint mojito, perfect for cooling down on a warm day.
When you think of summer, what are some things that come to mind? For me, it is definitely watermelon. Well, and also homemade strawberry shortcake and tuna macaroni salad. But, definitely, watermelon tops the list!
This Watermelon Mint Mojito is the perfect drink to enjoy during those dog days of summer when you are craving a refreshing, flavorful, and easy-to-make cocktail.
What is a Mojito?
A Mojito is a cocktail that is made with white rum, lime juice, sugar, and mint. It originated in Havana, Cuba. It gained a lot of popularity in the United States because it was a favorite drink of author Ernest Hemingway.
It is on the sweet side with a minty lime flavor that nicely compliments the rum. It is generally served cold and best enjoyed in the summertime.

Watermelon Mint Mojito
Watermelon is easily accessible in the summer months and adds a nice twist to the traditional mojito. The best part? Watermelons are very low in calories!
Ingredients:
1 cup watermelon, chopped
12 mint leaves
1 oz lime juice
5 oz rum
2 oz Agave Nectar or simple syrup
1½ cup ice
8 oz club soda
Tools needed:
Mint – This is a classic part of a mojito drink. Fresh mint is easy to find in most supermarkets. Could you omit the mint? I suppose, but you would really lose the essence of the cocktail.
Watermelon – Without the addition of the watermelon, you would have a traditional mojito. Doable, of course, but adding the watermelon is what makes this such a fun summer beverage.
Rum – To keep the sweetness of the mojito, stick with a white rum. The darker varieties are aged more and tend to have much deeper flavors.
Lime juice – The lime helps add a bit of tartness to balance out the sweetness of the watermelon. It can be omitted but you will lose the great citrus flavor.
Agave – If you don’t have agave nectar available, you can swap it out for an equal amount of simple syrup.
Club soda – This is what gives the mojito a bit of a fizz. You can exchange it with tonic water, sparkling water, or your favorite light-colored carbonated soft drink.
Make it a Mocktail
You can easily enjoy this Watermelon Mint Mojito without the rum. You can leave the rum out completely or switch it out with non-alcoholic rum instead to keep the woody, molasses flavor to the drink.
How to Make The Cocktail
You’re going to want to have your watermelon chopped up into small pieces. Small enough to fit inside a cocktail shaker.
Add your watermelon and mint leaves to your cocktail shaker. While holding your muddler, gently press down while turning. Release, and repeat until all the juices have been released.
Add the lime juice, rum, and agave nectar to the cocktail shaker. Put the cover on and shake it vigorously for 20 – 30 seconds.
I like to place a watermelon slice in each glass. It gives it such a nice presentation and adds that much more watermelon flavor. Then, fill the glass with ice.
Pour the watermelon mixture over the ice, filling it halfway up the glass. Top it off with your club soda and garnish with fresh mint and a lime slice, if desired.
That’s all there is to it! Simple, delicious, and ready to serve.
A refreshing summertime cocktail that’s simple to make and is fruity and light. This watermelon mint mojito hits the spot on a warm day and is perfect for any occasion.
