With the holiday season upon us, I am always on the hunt for a quick and easy appetizer to serve. This recipe was introduced to me a few years ago, and I had completely forgotten about it until I was looking through my recipe box this week–and there it was!

I can’t wait to serve this up today. My family loves bacon, and they definitely enjoy something with a bit of a kick, too. It reminds me a lot of the Bacon Wrapped Cheese Jalapeno Peppers, and those are a huge hit when I make them.

Why a Cheeseball?

Cheeseballs are a classic appetizer that never goes out of style. They are versatile, easy to make, and a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Whether you’re hosting a casual get-together, celebrating the holidays, or bringing a dish to a potluck, cheeseballs provide a rich and creamy centerpiece that pairs perfectly with a variety of dippers like crackers, fresh vegetables, or even sliced baguettes. Their customizable nature allows you to experiment with different flavors and textures, ensuring there’s always a version to suit the occasion and your guests’ tastes.

One of the best things about cheeseballs is how simple they are to prepare while looking impressive on the table. With just a handful of ingredients, you can whip up a delicious appetizer that feels fancy without the hassle. Cheeseballs can also be made ahead of time, giving you more flexibility when planning your event. Simply prepare, refrigerate, and roll them in their coating just before serving for a fresh, flavorful presentation.

Another reason cheeseballs shine as appetizers is their ability to cater to a variety of preferences. Whether it’s a spicy option like a Bacon Jalapeño Cheeseball or a sweet twist with cranberries and nuts in my Cranberry Pecan Cheeseball, the possibilities are endless. They’re a conversation starter, too, as guests gather around to enjoy their irresistible flavors. Portable, affordable, and always delicious, cheeseballs are the perfect way to elevate any gathering.

Mindful Meal Planner

Ingredients:

8 thick-cut slices of bacon
½ large jalapeño pepper (finely diced, divided)
8 oz. cream cheese (room temperature)
½ cup Mexican-blend cheese (shredded)
½ tsp. paprika
½ tsp. oregano
½ tsp. chipotle powder
½ tsp. garlic powder
salt & pepper (to taste)

How to Make the Appetizer

Cook the Bacon:
Line a large plate with paper towels and lay 4 slices of bacon on top. Cover with additional paper towels and microwave on high for 3-4 minutes, or until bacon is crispy. Repeat with the remaining slices. Once cooled, discard the paper towels.

Prepare the Bacon Coating:
Place the crispy bacon in a food processor and pulse briefly until roughly chopped. Combine the bacon crumbs with half the minced jalapeño in a bowl. Set aside.

Make the Cheese Mixture:
In a large bowl, mix the remaining jalapeño, cream cheese, Mexican-blend cheese, smoked paprika, oregano, chipotle powder, and garlic powder. Add salt and black pepper to taste, stirring until fully combined.

Shape the Cheeseball:
Using your hands, form the cheese mixture into a ball and place it on a serving plate. Refrigerate for 5-10 minutes to allow it to firm up slightly.

Coat the Cheeseball:
Remove the cheeseball from the refrigerator and gently roll it in the bacon and jalapeño mixture, ensuring an even coating.
