air fryer sweet potatoes

Herbs and spices perfectly season these cubed and peeled sweet potatoes that are then roasted in the air fryer, leaving them crisp on the outside and tender inside.

I asked for an air fryer because I wanted to see what all the hype was about. When I opened up the box, I was pretty frightened by the size of it. It was huge! I had no idea how I was going to cram it in a cabinet in my kitchen. Turns out I didn’t need to cram it inside a cabinet, after all. Know why? Because I love it so much and use it so often that it sits right out on my countertop. ?

This air fryer is the bomb-diggity. Of all the crazy appliances I’ve purchased over the years, this one has a permanent spot next to the toaster. Truth be told, if I had to pick between the air fryer and the toaster, I’d choose the air fryer…hands down. It does so much more than I ever thought. I have rarely put the oven on since I got it.

These sweet potatoes were the first thing I ever made with the air fryer. Well, that’s not true. They were the first thing “from scratch” that I made. We threw in some frozen mozzarella sticks and pizza logs right away, to see if it really acts like a deep fryer. You know how frozen mozzarella sticks turn out in the oven…limp, right? Well, not with the air fryer. They were very crispy, and that’s when I started wondering what else I could make in it. Now I use it to bake, roast, fry and re-heat. Re-heated pizza is amazing in the air fryer.

My air fryer is the OMORC Air Fryer XL. The basket is large enough to hold everything I have tried so far. If I needed to do a second basket of something, it wouldn’t be an issue because of the shortened cooking times.

Air Fryer Seasoned & Roasted Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients for Air Fryer Seasoned Sweet Potatoes

Ingredients:

4 sweet potatoes

1 1/2 tbsp olive oil

2 tsp brown sugar

2 tbsp vegetable seasoning blend

Salt & pepper, to taste

Non-stick cooking spray

Start out by washing and peeling your sweet potatoes, then cut them into one-inch cubes.

You’ll want to lightly spray the air fryer basket with your favorite cooking spray so the sweet potatoes won’t stick and preheat to 380°.

My special ingredient in this recipe is the roasted vegetable blend that I use. If you don’t have the blend on hand, you can make something similar on your own:

Roast Vegetable Spice Blend

I am, however, all about making things easier and quicker, so the blend works for me….plus, it’s delicious and I use it on a lot of my roasted vegetables and even on chicken and pork. It certainly makes these sweet potatoes very flavorful!

Mix together the brown sugar and seasonings blend in a bowl, then add the sweet potatoes and olive oil and combine until potatoes are well coated.  Salt and pepper to taste. If you prefer, you can put it all in a large Ziploc bag, zip and shake to combine.

Place the sweet potatoes in the fryer basket in a single layer. They will not be evenly cooked if they are overcrowded. Cook for 8 minutes, then give the basket a good shake, then continue cooking for another 8-10 minutes.

Sweet Potatoes in Air Fryer Basket

This sweet potato recipe is perfect for the air fryer, but if you don’t have an air fryer, you can still make them. This has always been my go-to sweet potatoes recipe, even before I had an air fryer. Place the sweet potatoes in a shallow pan, in a single layer, and bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes, until fork-tender.

  1. The main recipe says 2 Tbsp of the bottled spice blend, but the seasonings in the blend recipe mix total 2 teaspoons. I made the blend and used it. I might double it next time, as I mainly taste the sweetness (I used coconut sugar). Anyway…..yummy! My first time air frying sweet potatoes. Will be doing this often. Thanks!

    1. If you peel and cube the sweet potatoes, put them with water, store in an airtight container and place in the fridge, they will last 2-3 days. I don’t recommend freezing uncooked sweet potatoes because they lose flavor. Hope that helps! 🙂
